Lindsay Lohan was sentenced on Friday to 120 days in jail for violating her DUI probation.LOS ANGELES - Lindsay Lohan got a standing ovation from Jay Leno's audience Monday and admitted she was blindsided by her latest jail sentence.
In a pre-taped interview that airs tonight on NBC's "Tonight Show," the "Mean Girls" star called the punishment "shocking" and said it left her "kind of numb.
"At what point did you realize, 'Oh my God, I could lose this. This could slip away from me'? Leno asked Lohan in a clip released online.
"I think that when, you know, being young and being in the position I was in, you don't really take the time to appreciate what you have, and it all is kind of a whirlwind, and people make decisions for you," Lohan replied.
"But I'm not a kid anymore. I'm 24. I've made a lot of mistakes, and I recognize that. I'm in the clear now, and I feel like as long as I stay focused, then I will be able to achieve what I want to achieve," she said.
She conceded she's dealing with the "consequences" of her actions.
"There were times when I was concerned, but I'm a fighter, and I know I have to work to gain the respect back," she told Leno in an audio clip leaked to Ryan Seacrest.
"I'm willing to do the work that I have to do to follow through with being an actress...and that's what I love to do."

Lohan, wearing a black satin jumpsuit and loose blonde bun, told the audience she's playing the wife of John Gotti Jr. in the crime family biopic "Gotti: Three Generations."
The film's spokesman told the Daily News that producers are standing by the embattled actress.
"She is still in the film provided she can fulfill her obligations," Fiore Films spokesman Steve Honig told the News.
"She has been cast in this role. She still has the role and we're very excited about her being in the movie."
A Los Angeles judge sentenced Lohan to 120 days in jail Friday, saying the former Disney star violated her DUI probation by taking a necklace from a jewelry store without paying for it.
Lohan's attorney Shawn Holley immediately appealed the decision, and Lohan was released on bond after about five hours in custody.
Lohan's necklace trial is scheduled to begin June 3. She faces up to a year in county jail if convicted of a misdemeanor.
Honig said it's too early to talk about accommodating her legal calendar.
"We're not going to speculate on 'What if this happens, what if that happens,'" he said.
"We're dealing with a few unknowns. Once we start understanding exactly what the situation is, that's when we can start making some decisions."
