David Arquette and Courteney Cox are still separated but working on their marriage issues.

For a brief ? and yet all too long ? moment, Courteney Cox thought her estranged husband David Arquette might secretly be gay.

Cox humorously shared the anecdote on Tuesday's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," recounting how an attempt to buy music on iTunes almost led her to another marriage crisis.

"I went on to view the [iTunes] history to see what other songs that maybe David had been downloading because he's hip," she explained to Kimmel, rattling off some of the music and book purchases she found.

"And then it said 'Grindr: To find your same sex in your neighborhood,' " Cox said. "And I was like, 'Wow. What if you actually don't know the person you've been with for that long? [I] wonder if David's buying Grindr.' "

STARS WHO HAVE COME OUT

Instead of going straight to the source, Cox first called her assistant, who is gay, to see if he possibly made a purchase on their account.

"He said, 'No.' And now I'm kind of shaking," she remembered.

The "Cougar Town" star prodded her assistant some more, practically begging him to confess a purchase.

"'Tell me you bought one thing! You bought Grindr!' " she said she told him. "And he was like, 'Oh, no, yeah, that was a free app. Yeah, yeah, yeah.' "

While Kimmel thought it "would've explained a lot" if Arquette was actually gay, Cox saw it a bit more tragically.

"That would've been so terrible!" she exclaimed.

The late night host admitted to wanting to inquire about the couple's bumpy relationship ? they separated last June after 11 years of marriage ? but didn't know if he should.

"Why would you keep your mouth shut? We can't!" she joked.

CELEBRITY BREAKUPS: STARS IN SPLITSVILLE

Both Cox and Arquette appeared on Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show last week after the actress found herself feeling a bit fed up with her hubby's tell-all chats.

"You can only take so much. David had been doing it all week and I would hear little snippets of what kind of person I am," she said. "I was like, 'You know what? I'm done. I'm done. I'm walking on!' "

While Cox said she "had a good time," the interview ended up being far more personal than she intended.

"You forget that other people are listening because you're so comfortable," she explained. "They got heavy, deep and real.

"I was like, 'David, we talk to therapists about this. I know Howard is good with this, but can we not?'" she added.
